Midland Opera’s production of Puccini’s La Boheme at Tudor Grange Academy on December 12th was a great success.

Comments from the audience included “A nurse told me she and her partner were both crying at the death scene - actually lots of people were, the acting was as powerful as the singing.”

It was a huge feat for Tudor grange’s young students, only aged between 11 and 13, to sing in Italian in such a major opera. As we have come to expect, we were also able to enjoy truly accomplished soloists who were fantastic actors as well as superb singers and we thank them for making it so memorable.

More comments from our audience:-

"I must stress what a rewarding experience La Boheme was. The evening took off with Act 2. Act 3 had a harrowing intensity, just two couples on an empty stage singing divinely. I got through half a pack of Kleenex!"

"The triumph of the evening was the singing. They [soloists] and the chorus did an amazing job."

"Colline’s aria to his overcoat was like velvet."

And finally...

"I must have seen quite a few Bohemes over the last 60 years and enjoy the work of big companies well enough, but for me these modest presentations are the stuff of real life. With smaller locations and enthusiastic young participants they carry a powerful punch. Several people I talked to had never seen this opera before. One 13 year old said simply “I cried." All of which suggests the importance of your work in taking operas around to new audiences.”
